The year of the fightback?

Fascinating article on Progress Online this morning by Anthony Painter. He looks at the prospect of left parties in elections this year in France, the US and London. Some very different situations, all interesting.

This stood out though. Parti Socialiste campaign director, Pierre Muscovici has said…

The time of the tough right and the lax left is over. We will be responsible and credible. Whatever the difficulties, we will reduce the deficit and the debt. We won’t spend more.

This is a massive contrast to what Ségolène Royal’s train-wreck of a campaign were saying six years ago. (Incidentally, Socialist candidate, François Hollande, is doing rather well in opinion polls)
