** Update for November 5, 2025 ------------------------------------------------------------ ** Growing the economy for everyone ------------------------------------------------------------ Our simple, targeted capital gains tax plan will grow the economy, back Kiwi businesses and fund three free visits to the doctor for every New Zealander. Every dollar raised will be ring fenced for health, with a new Medicard the gateway to accessing free primary healthcare. Building on our Future Fund, this is the next step in our plan for a productive economy that ensures our kids can build a life here and not be forced into taking their skills overseas. What will be taxed: Commercial property and residential investment property only. What won’t be taxed: Your family home, farm, inheritance, Kiwisaver, shares, businesses and personal items. Who pays: Nine in 10 Kiwis will never pay CGT. But everyone gets a free visit to their GP when they need it. We’ve created a website where you can get all your questions answered, such as what might happen to rents and house prices. New Zealand cannot build a strong enough economy by buying and selling houses - it locks wealth into property and not the productive economy, which builds jobs and innovation. Click on the link below to get the facts about our plan to grow New Zealand’s economy and make sure everyone can see a doctor when they need to. Get the facts (https://capitalgainstax.nz/) ** Catch up with me this weekend ------------------------------------------------------------ Join me this Sunday at the Phillipstown Community Hub’s Spring Gala at 39 Nursery Road from 11am to 2pm. I can answer your questions about Capital Gains Tax, the Future Fund or any other part of Labour’s plan to grow New Zealand’s economy. I’ll have the barbecue going with a free sausage sizzle. See you there! On Friday I spent the day in Auckland talking to people and organisations working in Māori justice. Thanks to Malia at Te Pā (https://tepaa.nz/) in Royal Oak for this fantastic shot. The success of kaupapa Māori organisations in reducing reoffending has been overlooked by the Luxon Government. Ignoring evidence about both what the drivers of crime are, and what works to reduce reoffending, they recycle policies that have been tried before and failed. Arena Williams and I also visited Waatea News (https://www.facebook.com/login/) , AUT Dean of Law (https://www.aut.ac.nz/study/study-options/law) Khylee Quince, and Tearfund (https://www.tearfund.org.nz/Our-Work) to discuss adoption law. ** In the news ------------------------------------------------------------ https://tetahiyouth.org.nz/ Te Tahi Youth provides free mental health support for young people in Christchurch. ** Learn how to help→ (https://givealittle.co.nz/fundraiser/running-42km-at-42-for-youth-mental-health) ------------------------------------------------------------ Unemployment figures highest in a decade, showing New Zealand is going backwards under National. ** Read more → (https://www.labour.org.nz/news/release-highest-unemployment-rate-in-nearly-a-decade/) ------------------------------------------------------------ ** Let’s talk about health ------------------------------------------------------------ Next Wednesday evening I’m hosting a public meeting in Christchurch with Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to discuss how the National Government is making our healthcare system worse, and what we can do to fix it. The event is free but bookings are essential - grab a ticket using the button below.
