The cost of living is bad enough. You shouldn’t have to pull out a credit card just to see the local doctor.
New Zealanders I talk to are fed up with a government telling you: if you can’t afford care, you can wait.
I’m not willing to accept that. And I don’t think you are either. So here’s my commitment to you:
If I have the privilege of being Prime Minister after the next election, a Labour Government will deliver free doctor’s visits, shorter wait times, and care closer to home - for everyone.
And over the weekend, I announced the next step in that plan.
A Labour Government will launch the Family Doctor Loan Scheme to make it easier for doctors to open new GP clinics and expand existing ones.
Under our Scheme, doctors will be able to get interest-free loans to get started. It is a practical, targeted way to boost the number of clinics across New Zealand and strengthen the ones we already have.
