** Update for June 26, 2025 ------------------------------------------------------------ ** We will repeal the Regulatory Standards Bill ------------------------------------------------------------ Labour will repeal the Regulatory Standards Bill (https://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/PA2506/S00186/labour-will-repeal-regulatory-standards-bill.htm) . It’s a bill that has no place in a fair and democratic New Zealand - and speaking of democracy, the time allocated to hear submissions on this bill has been slashed. The public will get just 30 hours to have their say, which is a fraction of the time allocated to other major legislation. I spoke to Te Ao Māori News this week about this unfair process. Straight out of the Trump playbook, he’s been calling opponents - many respected voices in New Zealand - deranged. Many have pointed out Ministers’ obligations to uphold certain standards as outlined in the Cabinet manual.
