Jacinda Ardern Approval Rating Graph

This page shows Jacinda Ardern's popularity as Preferred Prime Minister over time, as measured by public opinion polls in New Zealand from December 2014 to December 2024. While there is limited polling of approval ratings in New Zealand, the preferred PM measure provides a consistent long-term view of how voters ranked political leaders as their choice for Prime Minister.

The graph compares Ardern’s rating to those of her National Party opponents across this 10-year period — Bill English, Simon Bridges, Todd Muller, Judith Collins, and Christopher Luxon. Each line represents the proportion of people in a given poll who selected that person as their preferred Prime Minister.

Ardern became Labour leader in August 2017 and Prime Minister shortly afterward. Her preferred PM ratings peaked during the COVID-19 response period in 2020, reaching record highs. The graph tracks her support through the 2020 and 2023 elections, alongside shifts in National leadership.
