The newest Te Pāti Māori MP is supporting her colleague Mariameno Kapa-Kingi, who faces suspension from the party.
The move to suspend her comes after weeks of turmoil.
Mariameno Kapa-Kingi said the spending was to help her friend and fellow MP Takutai Tarsh Kemp - and the party leadership knew and had approved this.
After being outed by her party last week for overspending her Te Tai Tokerau budget, MP Mariameno Kapa-Kingi has finally responded. She says the co-leaders are wrong.
The allegations were prompted by a release of documents by Kapa-Kingi's own party.
