An abusive email was sent to an Upper Hutt mayoral candidate. The sender says he has nothing to do with the incumbent mayor’s campaign. But locals and other mayors suspect otherwise.
The controversial social media figure is under fire on two fronts. Upper Hutt mayor Wayne Guppy is distancing himself from his former campaign ally, while former Wellington mayor Justin Lester has started legal action.
“It’s time to take a proper look at how rates are structured and who’s carrying the burden,” she said. “Fairness matters. Many rural residents feel overlooked – and they’re right to. “Ratepayers are doing it tough right now, and they deserve better value for money. That means making sure every dollar goes where it’s needed — not into unnecessary projects or growing bureaucracy. We should be looking to smarter, more efficient ways of working — including better use of technology.”
