Grant Edge

Party Independent
Official Candidate Biography

My principal place of residence is in the North Canterbury/Ōpukepuke Constituency area.

I’m an experienced Councillor and effective communicator who thinks outside the square to deliver sensible, forward-thinking solutions. I understand the complexities of new planning legislation, plus the need to take action to enable adaptation to climate change pressures across North Canterbury. I support a simplified consenting process and adoption of practical catchment-based land and water management in our rural spaces recognising landscape diversity. I support catchment and community groups taking action to regenerate biodiversity. Improving water quality for drinking, swimming and ecosystem health in our rivers are priority issues for me. I want to promote the special character of our outstanding natural landscapes and unique cultural setting to foster tourism and recreation. I support public transport initiatives with more compact urban growth that will reduce carbon emissions and loss of productive land. I will continue to facilitate positive change to deliver improved social, economic and environmental outcomes at less cost.
