Mike Okey

My principal place of residence is in the Christchurch South/Ōwhanga Constituency area.

I have lived in Christchurch for over 50 years and worked in the building industry as a self-employed project manager. My work has included managing large-scale property projects and surveying buildings for asset management. I spent a year working inside Environment Canterbury, helping relocate staff into the 200 Tuam Street headquarters, giving me insight into its internal structure and operations.

I’m married with three children and care deeply about the future of our region. I believe ECan must be transparent, community-focused, and deliver core environmental and transport services efficiently. Ratepayers deserve reliable outcomes without excessive spending on fringe initiatives.

I will advocate for practical, cost-effective decision-making and ensure the voices of local residents are heard at the council table.
