Official Candidate Biography

Ko Matthew Reweti tōku ingoa (Te Ātiawa ki Pōneke, Te Arawa, Ruanui). I’m standing to ensure the pipes are fixed, housing is affordable and you get value for money. I believe in a city that honours Te Tiriti through action, not just words.

I have a proven track record of community service and board-level experience. Working for hāpori Māori I’ve supported our people through hardship and hope. I believe in a city where we look after each other, respect our kaumātua and back our rangatahi.

You deserve a representative who is in it for the right reasons, who is willing to listen. I’m prepared to front up and be answerable to you.

I whakapapa to this whenua and I have a duty to work for all Māori. My reason is honest and authentic. It’s manaakitanga.

I bring something different: bold, effective and positive change.

Vote one for Matthew

Ko aku kaupapa nui: te whakatikatikatanga o ngā ngongo wai, ngā whare reiti papai, a, kia nui ngā hua a te putea ā-kaunihera. He whakapono nāku: kia pūmau Te Tiriti hei marutuna ā-Pōneke; ehara i te kupu noa iho.

Nā āku tautōhito i ngā mahi rātonga ā-hapori me te whakahaere pōari, kua tautoko ngāi Māori i ngā wā kōkirikiri, i ō tātou wawata hoki. Kia tiaki tātou ki a tātou, kia whakautea ngā kaumatua; kia ākihia ngā rangatahi.

He māngai au e tū ana i runga i te tika, a, e whakarongo ana ki ngā iwi. He tangata pūkeke au, kei a koe, kei a koutou te mana whakatono.

Mayoralty schmayoralty: these ward races will decide Wellington’s future
The Spinoff — September 24, 2025

Barring a major upset, polling suggests Andrew Little will win the capital’s mayoral chains with relative ease. But the type of council he will lead is still up in the air. Andrew Little must be feeling pretty good right now. A recent Q+A Verian poll gave him a commanding lead in the race to be Wellington’s next mayor, with 58% of first-choice votes, way ahead of second-placed candidate Ray Chung on 16%.
