Ian Mackenzie

Currently serving: Mid-Canterbury/Ōpākihi Regional Constituency, Environment Canterbury
Official Candidate Biography

My principal place of residence is in the Mid-Canterbury/Ōpākihi Constituency area.

I have a long history of serving my community in a variety of roles and now 6 years as your regional councillor, including leading environmental stewardship initiatives and the responsible use of our natural resources on my own land and across NZ.

As a councillor I have led reviews of our river management and flood protection schemes to adapt to the changing demands and challenges of continuing rural and urban development in a volatile climate.

I bring governance skills, pragmatism and common sense to council. I’m led by science rather than political rhetoric and consistently advocated for frugality and accountability when spending your rates.

This government is giving us the opportunity to reshape regional councils and their roles. With your support I look forward to being able to play a leading role in that restructure to better serve our communities’ aspirations.
