Windbag: The case for every Wellington mayoral candidate
The Spinoff — October 7, 2025

Twelve people are running to be the next mayor of Wellington. Here’s the best reason to vote for each of them.

Windbag: An obituary for Vision for Wellington
The Spinoff — September 30, 2025

The political super-group presented its final ‘vision’ for the city, but is anyone still listening?

The trickiest problem for Wellington’s next mayor
The Spinoff — September 29, 2025

Once water reform is out of the way, all eyes will turn to the complex, expensive quagmire of the council’s social housing. The best, worst and weirdest local elections hoardings of 2025, reviewed
The Spinoff — September 26, 2025

As local elections fever grips the nation, council candidates are jostling for your vote the best way they know how: by chucking up great big bloody signs on the side of the road. Here are The Spinoff’s top picks from around the motu. Oh oh oh, Ohakune (David “Rabbit” Nottage, Ruapehu District Council) Here’s a man who knows his colour wheel, with the plummy purples of his tie and shiny (!) leopard print (!) shirt popping beautifully against the egg yolk yellow of whatever the hell that is behind him (choco eclair tank?).

Mayoralty schmayoralty: these ward races will decide Wellington’s future
The Spinoff — September 24, 2025

Barring a major upset, polling suggests Andrew Little will win the capital’s mayoral chains with relative ease. But the type of council he will lead is still up in the air. Andrew Little must be feeling pretty good right now. A recent Q+A Verian poll gave him a commanding lead in the race to be Wellington’s next mayor, with 58% of first-choice votes, way ahead of second-placed candidate Ray Chung on 16%.
