Auckland Central covers the Auckland CBD, Grey Lynn, Herne Bay, St Mary's Bay, Ponsonby, Westmere and the Gulf Islands. The 2025 boundary review resulted in minor boundary changes to Auckland Central. The Auckland Central electorate was first won by former Governor and Premier George Grey in 1887. It was held by the Labour Party for much of the 20th century but has become more marginal in the recent decades, having been held by National’s Nikki Kaye from 2008-2020 and the Green’s Chlöe Swarbrick since 2020.
