Botany covers east Auckland suburbs including the suburb of Botany, Dannemora, East Tāmaki and Beachlands and Maraetai further east. Botany was contested for the first time at the 2008 general election, and won by Pansy Wong for the National Party. It has been won by National at every election since and is considered a very safe National seat. In the 2025 boundary review the Botany electorate expanded eastwards. It also took in areas from the fast-growing Takanini electorate to the south.
