Dunedin Electorate Profile

Profile

As its name suggests, the Dunedin electorate largely takes in the city of Dunedin and extends north as far as Waikouaiti. The current Dunedin electorate was created following the 2020 boundary review, largely taking in the old Dunedin North electorate. Otago Peninsula was moved from Dunedin South to Dunedin. In the 2025 boundary review the Dunedin electorate’s boundaries were unchanged from the 2020 review. The Dunedin/Dunedin North electorate has long been seen as Labour stronghold, having been held continuously by Labour since 1928 with the exception of being represented by National's Richard Walls for one term following the 1975 election.
