Mt Albert is an inner-suburban Auckland electorate known for its progressive character and rich political history. Located on the western edge of the Auckland isthmus, it encompasses established suburbs such as Point Chevalier, Mt Albert, Kingsland, and Morningside. The area is defined by a mix of heritage housing, vibrant village centres, and a diverse population that includes a high concentration of young professionals, renters, and families. Politically, the seat has long been considered a Labour Party fortress, famous for being the home electorate of two Prime Ministers, Helen Clark and Jacinda Ardern. However, the 2023 general election saw a dramatic shift, with current Labour MP Helen White retaining the seat by a razor-thin margin of just 18 votes against National's Melissa Lee. This result has transformed Mt Albert from a safe seat into one of the country's most marginal battlegrounds. The 2025 boundary review resulted in minor boundary changes to Mt Albert.
