North Shore is an affluent, coastal electorate located on the northern headland of the Waitematā Harbour. Anchored by the heritage suburb of Devonport and the commercial hub of Takapuna, it extends north along the coast through Milford and Castor Bay. The area is defined by its beaches, high property values, and the significant presence of the Royal New Zealand Navy base at Devonport. Politically, the North Shore is considered a safe National Party seat, reflecting its established, professional, and business-oriented demographic. While the electorate has occasionally seen competitive swings, it has remained in National's hands for decades. It is currently held by Simon Watts, who won the seat in 2020 following the retirement of former MP Maggie Barry, and he retained it with a significantly increased majority in the 2023 election. In the 2025 boundary review the North Shore electorate expanded northward slightly into Windsor Park and Murray's Bay.
