Northcote is a key urban electorate on the northern banks of the Waitematā Harbour, serving as the primary gateway to Auckland’s North Shore. Anchored by the Harbour Bridge, it encompasses the suburbs of Northcote, Birkenhead, Beach Haven, and Birkdale. The area is socially and economically diverse, featuring a mix of affluent coastal properties, heritage villas, and state housing, alongside a rapidly gentrifying demographic and a vibrant multicultural community. Politically, Northcote is a hotly contested battleground that often reflects the national swing. While it leans towards the National Party, it was held by Labour from 2020 to 2023. In the 2023 general election, National’s Dan Bidois reclaimed the seat, defeating the Labour incumbent Shanan Halbert. In the 2025 boundary review the Northcote electorate expanded northward in small areas.
