Pakuranga is a distinctively suburban electorate located in East Auckland, occupying the peninsula between the Tāmaki River and the Pakuranga Creek. The area is characterized by established residential neighbourhoods, high rates of home ownership, and significant transport infrastructure, including the South Eastern Highway and the busy commuter ferry service from Half Moon Bay. Politically, Pakuranga is a fortress for the National Party and is considered one of its safest seats in the country. It has been held by National continuously since 1987, serving as a reliable base of support even during nationwide swings to the left. The electorate is currently represented by senior National MP and Cabinet Minister Simeon Brown, who has held the seat since 2017 and consistently secures commanding majorities. In the 2025 boundary review the Pakuranga electorate expanded eastwards into Shelly Park.
