Papakura is a rapidly expanding electorate on the southern fringe of Auckland, serving as a gateway between the metropolis and the rural Franklin district. The area is anchored by the established town of Papakura and extends into semi-rural and lifestyle growth areas such as Drury and Karaka. It has a distinctive demographic character with a balanced mix of European, Māori, and Pasifika communities, alongside a fast-growing Asian population driven by new housing developments. Politically, Papakura is a stronghold for the National Party and is currently held by senior MP and Cabinet Minister Judith Collins, who has represented the seat since its re-establishment in 2008. While the electorate includes some Labour-leaning pockets in the Papakura township itself, the surrounding semi-rural and affluent lifestyle blocks consistently deliver strong majorities for National. In the 2025 boundary review Papakura took in areas from the fast-growing Takanini electorate.
