Port Waikato is a vast, predominantly rural electorate that straddles the boundary between the Auckland and Waikato regions. Extending from the Manukau Heads in the north down to Te Kauwhata in the south, it encompasses the rugged western coast, the lifestyle growth areas of Pōkeno and fast-growing towns like Tuakau. The electorate is defined by its primary industries, particularly dairy farming and horticulture, as well as its significant and expanding population of commuters who work in Pukekohe or South Auckland. Politically, the seat is a fortress for the National Party, reflecting its conservative rural and semi-rural demographic. It is currently held by Andrew Bayly, who has represented the area (and its predecessor, Hunua) since 2014. The electorate was the site of a unique political event in 2023: a standalone by-election was held shortly after the general election due to the death of a candidate, which Bayly won with a commanding majority. In the 2025 boundary review the Port Waikato electorate’s boundaries were unchanged from the 2020 review.
