Tauranga is a rapidly expanding urban electorate located in the Bay of Plenty, centered on the central city, the Avenues, and suburbs like Bethlehem and Greerton. As one of New Zealand's fastest-growing cities, it is defined by its coastal lifestyle and a robust economy anchored by the Port of Tauranga - the country's largest export port - and the surrounding horticulture industry. While traditionally known as a retirement haven, the demographic is shifting with an influx of young families and professionals from Auckland, creating significant pressure on local infrastructure and transport networks. Politically, Tauranga is a high-profile stronghold for the National Party, though it was famously held by New Zealand First leader Winston Peters for over two decades until 2005. Since then, it has been a safe blue seat, represented by senior MPs like Simon Bridges. It is currently held by Sam Uffindell, who won the seat in a 2022 by-election and retained it in 2023. In the 2025 boundary review Tauranga extended westwards while losing Mt Maunganui to the Bay of Plenty, which was renamed to Mt Maunganui. There were other minor boundary changes between Tauranga, Mt Maunganui and Rotorua.
