Campaign picking up pace
Our campaign in Rimutaka is really starting to pick up the pace. Last week we held a very successful Quiz Night at the Little Totara Bar in Upper Hutt. It was a great night and we'll organise another one soon.
Next Thursday we'll be holding our Annual Fundraising Dinner and Auction. It will be at the Traditional Thai Restaurant in Upper Hutt from 7pm. Tickets are $40 and there will be some great wine, art and memorabilia up for grabs in the auction.
To reserve your tickets, email Janette Granville or give her a call after hours on 5635443.
We'll also be hitting the ground with some door knocking on Saturday the 14th of May from 1pm onwards. Our aim is to knock on as many doors as we can between now and the election and win votes the old-fashioned way, face-to-face. If you'd like to join the canvassing team, send an email to Todd Valster.
If going door-to-door isn't your thing, you might like to join us for some early morning sign-waving, helping us to highlight Labour's commitment to keep state assets in public hands. That gets underway tomorrow morning (see below) and will happen regularly between now and the election.
It's great to see the momentum behind our campaign growing. Thank you so much for all of your support and effort. I know that with your help we can retain Rimutaka with an increased share of the vote and deliver a new Labour-led government.
Chris Hipkins
MP for Rimutaka Stop Asset Sales campaign
National's plan to sell-off state assets is shaping up to be one of the defining issues during this year's election campaign. With Don Brash back on the scene and angling for a senior ministerial role should a National-led government be re-elected, it's more important than ever that we re-double our efforts to keep strategic assets like our power companies, Kiwibank and TVNZ in Kiwi hands.
Tomorrow morning we'll be waving signs on Fergusson Drive in Upper Hutt from 7am till about 9am. We'll be on the long stretch of road between Silverstream and the Stokes Valley turnoff. If you want to pop by and join us for a bit of fun on your way to work, we'd love to see you.
Make your own billboard
On Sunday Phil Goff launched Labour's nationwide billboard campaign against asset sales. We've also put up a website where you can create your own. We're running a bit of a competition to see who can come up with the best billboard, which we'll use on a real billboard site. Go and check it out: www.makeyourownbillboard.co.nz
Rimutaka Electorate Committee
Congratulations to Todd Valster, who was unanimously elected as the new Chairperson of the Rimutaka Labour Party at our Annual General Meeting last night. We also extend our very warm thanks to George Collins, who stood down from the Chair's role to focus on establishing the new Affiliates branch and building our volunteer base.
Morehu Rei was re-elected Deputy Chair, and Janette Granville and Chris Kelly we re-elected as Secretary and Treasurer respectively. Ginny Andersen is our Women's Liaison rep (and Campaign Manager), and Morehu and Karim Dickie were elected as Youth representatives.
