With the House back in business this is the first edition of GreenWeek for 2009. The newsletter comes out weekly when the House of Representatives sits and keeps Green supporters up to date with the latest from our nine Members of Parliament and on Green issues. No justice at all in RMA changes
The Green Party revealed in Parliament this week that the Minister of Justice's own officials are concerned that an unequal playing field is about to be further tilted in favour of those with the most money.

Unanimous Support for Greens’ Pay Resolution
The Green Party resolution to hold MPs’ pay at current levels passed with support from all parties in Parliament this week after negotiations with both National and Labour.

Close my file and stop snooping on MPs
Green Party MP Keith Locke wants an assurance that the Security Intelligence Service (SIS) will finally close the file on his life – after over five decades of unwarranted snooping – and pledge that it will cease monitoring the political activities of MPs.

Two steps forward for National, one back
The Green Party has welcomed two planks in the Government’s infrastructure package but says National has broken a recent promise on public transport. Spending money on building new schools and ICT infrastructure is definitely something the Green Party supports. But the extra money on construction must be matched by hiring new teachers.

Low waged workers still trying to keep heads above water
This week’s minimum pay rise to $12.50 is simply not enough for Kiwis on low incomes. It merely makes up for what has been lost in buying power for our lowest income workers since last year's minimum wage increase.

Sorry Barack, not everybody recognises that more sprawl is not a smart way to design our communities. Our new government is doing everything in its power to enable developers and silence dissent, all the while building new roads.Read the comments here.
