Our newest MP David Clendon gives his maiden speech in the House today, and I know that before the speech he also plans to be part of the bikers' protest against unfair rises to ACC levies, so he's off to a fast start as a Member of Parliament.

I also expect a lot of debate on New Zealand's emissions trading scheme (ETS) this week. We believe every business and every industry should be responsible for its own emissions. We don't mind helping them out, but National's scheme has taxpayers spending billions of dollars subsidising big business; that doesn't seem fair or sensible when big polluters need to be encouraged to reduce their emissions.

You might have noticed that we've changed the time of the week when we send this newsletter - it's so we can tell you a little bit about what's coming up, as well as report back on recent news. The change aims to keep you better informed on Green political issues. Of course, we always welcome your comments or ideas so we're better informed too.

Regards

Metiria Turei, Green Party Co-Leader
