Kia ora [Name],

Over the past year we have been laying the foundations for success in 2026. We have strengthened our internal structures, grown our team, and sharpened our strategy. We have launched our Citizen Voice campaign to show what participatory democracy can look like in practice, building connections and credibility across the country.

Now it is time to take the next vital step: choosing the Leader who will carry this momentum into the 2026 General Election.

Everyday Kiwis are getting a raw deal from politics as usual. We face a cost of living crisis, a health crisis, an environmental crisis, and a political crisis. The Opportunities Party exists to prove there is a better way, one built on fearless honesty, equitable opportunity, ingenuity, and results that matter.

We are not looking for an ideologue. We are looking for someone unashamedly driven by practical, evidence-based solutions that work for everyday Kiwis. Someone who can connect with people, unite diverse perspectives, and inspire action.

If you know someone who fits the bill, or if that someone is you, now is the time to step forward.

Key qualities we are seeking:

  • Understands the reality of New Zealand’s cost of living: not just the stats, but the lived experience
  • Has a reputation for honesty and transparency
  • Solves problems with practical, evidence-based ideas
  • Communicates authentically in every setting, from town halls to supermarket aisles
  • Works across divides and stays cool under pressure

We’re looking for someone who is comfortable being front and centre without making everything about themselves. You need to be grounded, humble and confident. What matters is your ability to lead us towards a better future, live our values (fearless honesty, equitable opportunity, ingenuity, and results that matter), and handle the heat without melting.

Submit a nomination

Applications are open now and will close at 5pm on 7 September 2025.

From there, shortlisted candidates will take part in interviews, media challenges, and member forums. The selection panel will then make a recommendation to the Board, and once the process is complete, we will announce our new Leader.

Think you have what it takes, or know someone who does? Step forward. You can read the full job advert or go straight to the nomination form to put your hand up.

Ngā mihi,

Iain Lees-Galloway - TOP General Manager
