Ngā mihi Duncan Book a seat (https://events.humanitix.com/making-immigration-better) ** Changes to earthquake-prone building laws ------------------------------------------------------------ Many of you will know that the aftermath of the Christchurch earthquakes was what led me to get into politics. As a lawyer I acted for homeowners battling insurance companies and the-then EQC (now NHC). Many of the rules this new legislation addresses were brought in as a response to Christchurch, by the National Government in 2016/2017. However, some of the standards haven’t worked very well. We’re cautiously welcoming the overhaul while still working through the detail. As a Christchurch resident I’m acutely aware that this remains a big issue. ** In the news ------------------------------------------------------------ The National Government’s refusal to recognise Palestinian statehood is an embarrassment. ** More → (https://www.labour.org.nz/news/release-national-govt-an-embarrassment-on-palestine/) ------------------------------------------------------------ The National Government’s economic wrecking ball has resulted in the loss of 20,000 construction jobs ** Details → (https://www.labour.org.nz/news/release-nationals-economic-wrecking-ball-costs-20k-construction-jobs/) ------------------------------------------------------------ ** For your diary this weekend ------------------------------------------------------------ * Riverlution Farmers’ Market (https://www.facebook.com/events/1375590170372512/1375590213705841/) * Frocktober Fundraiser (https://www.facebook.com/events/2017083542395057/) * Sculpture Festival (https://www.facebook.com/events/1077072731206170/1077072787872831/) * Ferrymead Night Market (https://www.facebook.com/events/2667617723581792/) * Badjelly the Witch (https://ccc.govt.nz/news-and-events/whats-on/event/badjelly-the-witch-2) ** Connect with me ------------------------------------------------------------ Follow me on social to keep in touch with our events and more. https://facebook.com/ https://instagram.com/ https://x.com/ https://tiktok.com/ https://linkedin.com/ View in browser (https://mailchi.mp/2ab67fcec5fc/the-budget-that-leaves-women-out-13890824) Copyright (C) 2025 Duncan Webb, MP for Christchurch Central.
