** Update for October 22, 2025 ------------------------------------------------------------ ** New Zealand’s future - secured ------------------------------------------------------------ On Monday Chris Hipkins announced Labour’s plan for transformational change of New Zealand’s economy. The Future Fund will grow the economy for everyone so our young people can make good lives here and not be forced to seek opportunities overseas. New Zealand has the talent and the ideas and the Future Fund is how we turn aspiration into action. Established with a foundation of existing assets and an initial capital contribution, the fund will be independently governed by the Guardians of the Super Fund. Its guiding principle will be simple: to build lasting wealth and opportunity here at home, for the benefit of all New Zealanders. You can watch Chris’ announcement video by clicking on the button below, and read the details in the attached document. It has been an enormous privilege to be the MP for Christchurch Central for three terms, as well as serving as a Minister in the previous Labour Government, but it’s time for me to spend some more time with my family doing the things we love like being outdoors. I will still be your MP for the next year and my office is open for business as usual. I’ll continue to stay in touch to share Labour’s plans to turn New Zealand around. Here’s a snap of me with my fellow “Class of 2017” newbie MPs. ** In the news ------------------------------------------------------------ More than 100,000 workers from five unions will strike tomorrow. The local rally is postponed but you can still stand with workers. ** Stand with workers → (https://www.together.org.nz/ra_whakamana) ------------------------------------------------------------ Did you know Christchurch has a thriving game development industry? We’re backing this industry’s future growth. ** Read more → (https://www.labour.org.nz/news/release-labour-backs-kiwi-game-developers-to-grow/) ------------------------------------------------------------ ** Happy Labour Day ------------------------------------------------------------ It shouldn’t be lost on anyone that tomorrow’s mega strike takes place just before Labour Day. With workers’ rights increasing under attack by the Government, celebrating the eight-hour workday is more important than ever. If you’re lucky enough to still have a job under this Government, we celebrate your dedication and mahi and hope you have a relaxing long weekend and extra time with those you love. ** For your diary this weekend ------------------------------------------------------------ * Spring Market at Climate Action Campus (https://www.facebook.com/events/2969189706570058) * Diwali at Rolleston (https://www.facebook.com/events/1553866125598792/) * Big Bands at the Arts Centre (https://www.facebook.com/events/1363762998417402/) * Orton Bradley Park Spring Fair (https://ccc.govt.nz/news-and-events/whats-on/event/orton-bradley-park-spring-fair-8) * The Vegan Night Mākete (https://ccc.govt.nz/news-and-events/whats-on/event/the-vegan-night-makete-8) ** Connect with me ------------------------------------------------------------ Follow me on social to keep in touch with our events and more. https://facebook.com/ https://instagram.com/ https://x.com/ https://tiktok.com/ https://linkedin.com/ https://youtube.com/ View in browser (https://mailchi.mp/0ad26b3d24dd/the-budget-that-leaves-women-out-13890974) Sign the petition (https://petitions.parliament.nz/7e886066-455b-4ab6-be96-08ddec0a4a41) Copyright (C) 2025 Duncan Webb, MP for Christchurch Central.
