Connecting with members and supporters

A real highlight has been hearing directly from many of you through emails, at events, and on social media. It was awesome to connect with our members in Wellington and get out speaking to Aucklanders at the Grey Lynn Festival.

Your questions, feedback, and support are shaping the direction we’re taking. Thank you for engaging so openly and constructively as we begin this next chapter.

Upcoming events

Over the coming weeks we’ll be holding events and meet-ups across the motu. These are great opportunities to connect, ask questions, and help build the movement.

If there isn’t an event near you yet, we’re working on getting to you early in 2026. Supporters are welcome to host local meet-ups too.

Looking ahead

We’re only at the beginning, but the early momentum is encouraging. With evidence-based policy, practical solutions, and a growing grassroots network, we can shift the political conversation and the direction of the country.

Thank you for your support. If you have thoughts or ideas you’d like to share, you can reply directly to this email. I do read them.

Ngā mihi,

Media coverage
I took part in 15 interviews this week! We are so encouraged by the national interest in our refreshed focus and direction. Here are a few highlights:
- Q&A with Jack Tame <https://www.youtube.com/watch was my first major interview and we’re stoked with the interest it’s already had with nearly 40,000 views so far!
- I also spoke to Ryan Bridge on Herald Now <https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/qiulae-wong-meet-the-new-leader-of-the-opportunity-party/M2DYRHTQITH75PL3DIQFL4S2HU/> where it was great to speak about how we’re here to shake up politics as usual.
- Stuff <https://www.stuff.co.nz/politics/360887821/150000-votes-were-coming-you-new-leader-opportunities-party-sets-target-2026-election>emphasised our ambitious but achievable goal of reaching 150,000 votes.
- 1News covered our relaunch <https://www.1news.co.nz/2025/11/16/opportunity-top-rebrands-as-new-leader-chases-5-threshold/> and our goal to reach the 5% threshold.
- I chatted with Emile Donovan on RNZ nights <https://www.rnz.co.nz/national/programmes/nights/audio/2019013064/with-a-new-leader-and-party-rebrand-opportunity-aims-for-parliament-in-2025> highlighting our tax reset proposal.
- Pacific Media Network <https://pmn.co.nz/read/political/opportunity-party-s-new-leader-pitches-a-major-tax-reset-to-support-pacific-families> discussed how our policies can better support Pacific families.
This level of attention shows that New Zealanders are looking for a practical, future-focused alternative.
