Kia ora [Name],

What a week it’s been on the road for Opportunity.

Over the past few days I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many passionate, thoughtful people in Wellington and Palmerston North. New Zealanders who genuinely care about building a fairer, more hopeful future and who are hungry for real solutions, not slogans.

Across both cities, a few themes came through loud and clear:

  • People are looking for hope. They want a politics that backs their potential, their families, their communities, not one that divides or dismisses.

  • Fairness matters deeply. Whether it’s young parents balancing the cost of living, small business owners trying to grow, or older New Zealanders worried about the world their mokopuna will inherit, fairness is in our DNA.

  • A desire for long-term thinking. People are frustrated by short-termism. They want climate action that’s practical, housing solutions that are honest, and a tax system that’s built for the 21st century.

These conversations are shaping our campaign, and ultimately our movement. Thank you to everyone who showed up, asked hard questions, and shared your experiences.

Innovation everywhere

One of the strongest themes from my visits this week was innovation - not just in technology, but in how we care for people, restore nature, and shape our future.

At Whakamatūtū, I saw a compassionate, forward-thinking approach to mental health care that truly puts people at the centre. Their work is a reminder that innovation can be deeply human, rooted in empathy, dignity, and possibility.

At Predator Free Wellington, it was the relentless, hopeful drive to protect our native birds and forests. Their vision isn’t just about removing predators; it’s also uniting Kiwis around their love for nature and embodying our country’s values of getting stuck into hard mahi and working together.

I also met with a range of start-up communities this week: at CreativeHQ, ManawaTech, and The Factory, I met founders and innovators who are pouring their energy into solving problems and making things better. They’re the engine room working on boosting our country’s productivity in food systems, clean energy, fintech and more. There’s no doubt about our ability to export our ideas to the world.

New Zealand is full of people who believe we can do better and are rolling up their sleeves to prove it. That spirit of innovation, creativity, and care is exactly what Opportunity is here to champion and scale across the whole country.

Let’s keep building this movement

Every week, our momentum grows: more people turning up to events, more volunteers signing up, and more communities feeling energised by a fresh, constructive kind of politics.

If you haven’t already, it would mean a lot if you could:

👉 Follow us on social media and share our content. It’s one of the easiest ways to help us reach more New Zealanders:

👉 Chip in a small donation if you’re able. Every contribution, big or small, helps us get out on the road, hold public events, and spread the word about our vision for a fairer future. An enormous thanks to those of you who are already contributing!
