Kia ora [Name],

I’ve just spent the week in Dunedin, Queenstown and Wānaka, and it’s so cliché but it is hard not to feel inspired by our backyard.

One minute we were at the wild St Clair beach, the next we’re winding through mountains that feel older than time. This landscape is a personification of the Kiwi spirit - rugged, quirky, ambitious.

And that ambition extends to our people who have made this region a test bed for next gen tourism, nature restoration, food production, and infrastructure. Mike Casey’s fully electric cherry orchard and Lake Hāwea’s high value sheep and beef farm are demonstrating how doing good and doing well can go hand in hand.

There’s no doubt it will continue to grow as a powerhouse of our economy but it is also one of the natural jewels that make us world-renowned so we must grow it in a way that protects and preserves that natural capital.

Our growing member base

It has been awesome to see our membership numbers increase over the past few weeks. But I’ve also had questions around what it means to be a member so here are a few quick thoughts:

Becoming a member is not a public declaration of your views - it can be a completely private show of support for the Opportunity movement. It’s up to you who you tell.
It’s not a conflict with your job. Everyone has the right to join a political party.
It makes a HUGE difference to us to tell influencers we’re speaking to that more and more Kiwis are coming on board.
It’s extremely affordable at only $20/year. And you can also set up a monthly donation if you wish.
