It’s a brief update on five things National has done this week to fix the basics and build the future to help all New Zealander’s get ahead. Here’s what you might’ve missed this week: 1. New LNG import facility to keep the lights on and power bills down Labour’s oil and gas ban left Kiwis high and dry. It pushed up energy bills, cost jobs, made our country more reliant on imported coal, and left our electricity supply at risk during dry years. Our planned LNG import facility in Taranaki will provide a reliable back up energy supply and reduce energy bills, saving Kiwi households around $50 a year. Backing events is boosting the economy We’re backing a range of events from the Bay of Islands to Tekapo through a $70 million Major Events and Tourism Package. We’re doing it to help towns and cities come alive and thrive, giving visitors even more reasons to choose New Zealand. These events boost NZ’s economy by filling local hotels, restaurants, and shops around the country. Every dollar spent on live performance generates around $3.20 to local communities. Kiwi builders & DIYers: thousands more building products approved Thousands more plumbing and drainage products already used across Australia are now available in NZ, giving Kiwi tradies and DIY homeowners more choice and competitive pricing. By cutting red tape and fixing the basics, the Government is making it simpler and more affordable to build the homes and public buildings New Zealand needs to ease house prices and lift living standards. Investment boost proves a winner with businesses Forty percent of firms aware of Investment Boost say it has increased their investment spending over the past year – helping to create jobs and lift productivity.
