Dr Alex Hedley, a public health specialist in training based in Napier, says it’s tough going trying to get health equity for Māori since the scrapping of Te Aka Whaiora – the Māori Health Authority.
Speaking to Waatea in a personal capacity, Dr Hedley, who features in the online documentary series ‘I am a Doctor’, says many illnesses are preventable and that public health is a key vehicle for making critical changes.
