Singapore-born and having lived in Tōtara Vale for 28 years, Raymond has a good understanding of cultural cohesion and hopes to bring together and connect locals with newcomers to make Kaipātiki a great place to live.
As a public servant for over 20 years, including over 10 years in Auckland Council, leading the asset management function, he is a strong advocate for diversity and inclusivity to enable better delivery of community and environmental outcomes. The Council must provide services and listen to families with young children, the elderly, and disabled communities.
With a PhD focused on optimised and sustainable public asset value, he believes in the need to balance community outcomes with financial viability for future generations, being transparent and accountable for decisions based on facts and evidence. He also holds a Henley MBA, an Honours degree, and several postgraduate and professional qualifications in banking/finance, risk, and quality management.
Raymond is Chartered Director (IOD) and Chartered Governance Professional (CGI), and serves as a trustee of the Trusts Arena, NZ Children's Choral Academy, a board member on the NZ Occupational Therapy, NZ Choral Federation, and NZ Chinese Association Auckland. He was previously the chairperson for the Glenfield Community Centre and Target Road Primary School. He is a NZ representative on several ISO technical committees in environmental (TC207), risk (TC262), asset (TC251), and facility (TC 267) management.
